The brief

A family-owned American carrier running late-model semi sleepers out of a Bolingbrook, Illinois hub. They came to us with nothing: no site, no pages, no copy. Everything a shipper might want to check before tendering a load lived in somebody’s head or on a phone call.

What we did

The whole thing, end to end. Structure, design, build, and the writing.

Freight is a trust purchase, so the site is built around the things a shipper checks before handing over a load: what equipment runs, where it goes, what the USDOT and MC numbers are, and who picks up the phone. Those sit on the page rather than behind a form. The quote request asks for pickup, delivery and load details, which is what is needed to answer with a real rate instead of a callback.

It is a static build, so there is no CMS to keep patched and nothing to take the site down at three in the morning. Images are processed at build time and served as WebP at the size the layout actually uses, rather than one large file scaled down in the browser.

The result

240 KB over 10 requests, first contentful paint at 280 ms, fully loaded in 373 ms, with roughly 1 KB of JavaScript on the page. For comparison, our own old WordPress site was 1,445 KB across 41 requests.

The number that matters more is the second one. Shippers check carriers from a phone, often from a yard with bad signal, and a site that paints in under a third of a second is one they finish reading.
