Concrete and Masonry, NY Metro / 2026

Mastro Brothers Concrete

A separate branch of a client we first built for in 2020, given its own site rather than a page on somebody else's.

The brief

We built for Mastro Brothers in 2020, on the renovation and construction side. The concrete and masonry work is a different branch of the business with a different buyer, and it had no site of its own. Starting from nothing again was the right call: a concrete contractor and a general renovator get asked different questions, and folding one into the other would have served neither.

What we did

Designed and built it end to end, including the writing.

The page is organised around how this work is actually bought. Services are named the way the trade names them, flatwork, foundations, CMU and masonry, sitework and hardscape, so somebody looking for one of them can see it without translating. The service area is stated plainly, covering the five boroughs, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and upstate. The quote form asks for project location and service needed up front, which is what makes a callback useful rather than exploratory.

It is a static build with no JavaScript on the page at all and 9 KB of CSS, served from Cloudflare’s edge. There is no CMS behind it, so there is no plugin surface to patch and nothing that can take the site offline on its own.

The result

A branch of the business that previously had no address online now has one that stands up on its own, with the phone number and the quote form on every screen.

551 KB on first load, first contentful paint at 132 ms, fully loaded in 154 ms.

That last part took a second pass. The first version shipped 3.2 MB of images: a logo drawn at 1024 pixels to be displayed at fifty, and photographs served at one fixed size to every device, so a phone downloaded the same file a desktop did. None of it was visible on a fast connection, which is exactly why it survived. Right-sizing the logo and giving every image a set of widths to choose from cut the page by 83 percent and changed nothing about how it looks.
